Tazorac is used For Treatment Of Acne

Tazorac comes in gel or cream form for the treatment of acne, whiteheads and blackheads.  It is made with tazarotene as the active ingredient which becomes Tazarotenic acid as it passes through the skin. It is a topical solution of retinoid compounds, or chemicals related to Vitamin A, which help regulate the growth of gland tissues, such as pores, which secrete sebum, the cause of acne. No other retinoid acts the same as tazarotene.

The way that retinoids work is by purging old cells and then unplugs the follicle to release bacteria and oils that cause acne.  By increasing skin cell turnover, retinoids keep new blackheads or whiteheads from forming.

There are some side effects with usage, as some report worsening of the acne, dry and cracking skin from the cell turnover, itchiness and redness.  For some patients, retinoid products are too harsh of a treatment.  For serious cases of acne, improvement has been seen by using the product.

You do have to see a doctor to get a prescription, so under a doctor’s care, side effects can be monitored.  Improvement normally comes within 4 weeks, since it works be regenerating the skin.  During that time is when you are likely to see the side effects of peeling, burning, dry skin and itching.  It will eventually pass, and your skin will be drastically improved at the end of the 12 week treatment program.

It is recommended that you always apply moisturizer to the skin before using the Tazorac and that will help minimize the drying effects and give your skin a protective moisture barrier.  You have to also use sunscreen when outdoors, since the new skin will be highly sensitive, causing you to sunburn quickly.

The Tazorac acne treatment is governed by the FDA, unlike many of the over-the-counter acne treatment products.  Since it is a drug that only becomes chemically active after it enters the body, it is called a prodrug that is what makes the product unique and more effective than many others on the market.

A retinoid, that is similar to Retinol A, and has many of the same side effects, most notably skin dryness, Tazorac has been found to be a proven medication against acne, whether blackheads, whiteheads, red pimples or pimples that contain pus.

Because the excess sebum production causes oil to clog the pores and the bacteria that causes acne feeds on that oil, the dryness is a side effect that has to be tolerated until the bacteria is killed off. Because acne is caused from the oils in your skin, it is a myth that things like chocolate, potato chips and ice cream cause acne, although many people believe that.

It should not be taken with other drugs that increase your sensitivity to sunlight, and you should always use sunscreen during treatment and after. A good skin care regimen is helpful as part of your treatment plan. Acne causes can range from hormone levels, pollution, high humidity, squeezing and picking at pimples and hard scrubbing of the skin.
