Acne vulgaris is something most people consider “vulgar”, indeed. It’s what covers the face and sometimes the back of many an adolescent, much to those adolescents’ dismay. This hit American franchise is sweeping the UK. The women’s only fitness centre has already broken the States and now has its eyes set on us!
The Poole and Bournemouth area have already caught “Curves mania”. With the latest arrival situated on Ashley road, Upper Parkstone. Celebrating its 1 year anniversary on the 25th of February 09 it seems this is a lot more then just some craze.
Curves is a facility specially designed for women interested in losing, firming and toning or just staying healthy, it’s in a safe and friendly environment where encouragement and support are in abundance. The workout consists of a qualified trainer monitored complete 30 minuet workout, within that half an hour you work all the major muscle groups while intergrading cardio and core stability strengthening.
With an optional weekly or monthly weigh and measure to keep an eye on those sneaky pounds!
The equipment used (as well as being designed with a woman’s body in mind) also uses a unique “hydraulic system”. Meaning no weights and a smoother more organic workout.
When speaking to the Curves in Poole gym members I asked them, why Curves works for them rather then one of the more commercially known fitness brands?
The responses were varied but all highly inspiring.
Jayne - “When I come to Curves for my workout, I don’t have to think twice about what I’m wearing, if my makeup’s right. All I have to think about is the workout, I can leave all the hang-up’s of being a woman at home!”
Cath - “At my old gym I would have to of paid extra for the kind of personal and individual attention you get from the staff. There is a trainer in the centre all the time making sure you use the equipment right and are working to your full potential”.
It seems the appeal to Curves in Poole is that not only is the workout designed for women but the attitude and atmosphere also.
The age range was surprisingly diverse, young girls just out of 6th form, mums in there 30’s to women in there 60’s and 70’s. Never have I seen such wide spread acceptance of a relatively new concept, but if it works (and Curves obviously dose) then why be surprised.
Iren said “ Before finding out about Curves I thought my “keep fit” days were over. With my hip problem and age, the gyms I looked into just wouldn’t work. But the machines are design with all ages in mind. As for my hip, the workout has only made me stronger!”.
I spoke to Jacqui Arnold, manager of the Parkstone based Branksome Curves centre (Poole), she puts the success is down to the friendly and supportive atmosphere of the Curves environment. Adding that the workout is hard and intense but the fun attitude of the members and staff make the half hour workout fly by.
With Curves Branksome also introducing an Abs and Core stability class on Thursday’s, it seems it is here to stay.

A yeast infection is a type of a fungal infection that is caused by any of the species of Candida, most commonly the Candida albicans. A common term for a yeast infection is thrush and the medical term is Candidiasis. A yeast infection that already involves the body’s system is called Candidemia. Systemic yeast infections are more common to immunosuppressed persons, such as those with AIDS, cancer and organ transplants.
What are the symptoms?
The superficial infections are those affecting the mucus membranes and skin. These cause discomfort and inflammation and are more common
compared to the systemic infection. Most of the superficial yeast infections can easily be treated and result only in minimal complications such as discomforts, itching and redness. People with yeast infections whose immune system are compromised usually suffer from localized infection of the mucus membranes of the urinary bladder, genitals, pharynx, esophagus, and the gastrointestinal tract. Of all the areas affected, yeast infection is more common in the genital area and also in the corners of the mouth.
The symptoms of vaginal yeast infection are severe burning, soreness, itching, and whitish-gray or whitish discharges. In men, the symptoms include sores and red patches on the foreskin or near the head of the genitals and also severe burning or itching sensations. In some cases no symptoms may emerge until the later stages.
What causes a yeast infection?
The Candida yeasts are actually normal flora of the body. But if they multiply uncontrollably, yeast infection occurs. Also, Candida also grows rapidly in cases wherein the immune system is weak. In preventing yeast infection, first you must be knowledgeable enough with what causes the development of the condition. Avoid the causes as much as possible. In preventing yeast infection to the genital areas, it is very essential to keep the area clean to prevent growth of the fungi and bacteria. It is also important to keep the area dry because moist and wet areas are where bacteria usually grow and multiply rapidly.

Wearing skintight pants, pantyhose, and silk panties will increase the heat and moisture in the vulva area. Switching to cotton underwear and panty hose with cotton crotches are a good way to make sure that there is not an overload of heat buildup.
If you are having repeated infections you will want to make sure that you have your sexual partner checked out. Make sure that you completely avoid sexual intercourse while undergoing treatment for a yeast infection. Also, it is extremely important to make sure that you are practicing good feminine hygiene. At least once daily, the vulva and anal area should be washed with a mild soap and water. Another thing to do in order to help prevent yeast infections from coming is to always wipe from front to back. By not doing so, you could be spreading fungi and bacteria to your vulva area, causing an infection.
And lastly, you really should avoid douching unless your doctor advises you to do so. The fluid from the douche could wash away the natural fluids your body needs and makes on its own. Doing such could make for a perfect breeding ground for infections. By taking all of those precautionary steps you could be helping yourself avoid infections but you may still end up with on every once in a while as there is no way to make them go away forever.
What is the best Candida Diet
There are a few Candida diets out there that target the reduction of sugar into the system since it promotes the growth of yeast. Foods that cause the Candida overgrowth of yeast are bread,dairy, wine, tomato paste, and mushrooms.
